Abu Dhabi Blood Bank, an affiliate of the General Authority for Health Services for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (GAHS), provides blood to government and private hospitals in Abu Dhabi as well as other emirates.
Blood transfusions are often needed for trauma victims due to accidents and burns, heart surgery, organ transplants, and patients receiving treatment for leukaemia, cancer or other diseases such as sickle cell disease and thalassaemia.
Awareness
During the campaign, the blood collection process took approximately 10-20 minutes for each donor while the entire process, including registration and screening, took between 45 and 60 minutes.
Educational brochures, leaflets and posters were also distributed on the occasion to raise awareness on the virtues of blood donation.
Jay Cooper, Acting CEO of SKMC, hailed the efforts of the blood bank for organising the donation campaign.
According to recent statistics, volunteers provide nearly all the nation’s blood supply for transfusion.
Eligible donors who can donate blood three to four times a year, come in good numbers to donate blood. Abu Dhabi Blood Bank operates from Sunday to Thursday between 7:30am and 9pm and on Saturdays from 8am to 1pm.
