The team headed by the Department of Human Rights of Dubai Police to protect workers rights has started receiving labour complaints through the Dubai Police hotline 8005005 at Dubai Police Operations room.
Major Aref Baqir, Head of Labour Complaints Section at Dubai Police’s Human Rights Department said the department had received more than 100 complaints since the installation of the hotline last Sunday.
He said : “The Human Rights Department team has visited the companies and found the labour complaints true, but the problems were simple and could be resolved immediately.”
Major Aref warned that the department would impose strict measures against companies which don’t cooperate with the Dubai Police and violate labour rights.
He said the department had visited 51 labour camps in different locations in Dubai, and explained to the labourers that the hotline facilitates them to contact the Human Rights Department in case of any problems.
Dr Saeed Mohammed Al Mari, Acting Director General of the Department of Community Service, instructed the Human Rights teams to spread awareness among the labourers and to explain to them their rights and the legal action to be taken if they face any injustice and to urge workers to comply with the UAE laws.
The Department has put up instruction boards at specific locations warning that the Department will take legal action if the instruction board was removed or shifted without permission from the Department of Human Rights.
Lieutenant Abdul Rahman, Head of Social Services at Rafaa Police Station, said a Dubai Police team visited one company and reached an agreement with it to pay labourers their salaries in time.
He warned companies which did not cooperate with the Dubai police team that the case would be reported to the Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief for necessary action.
