The huge ambulance — said to be only a few vehicles of its type in world — was delivered by Horton recently.
Khalifa Al Drai, executive director of DCAS said that a total of seven such vehicles will be used here. Giving details, he said that as soon as the vehicle will be switched on, an automated report of the patient and accident will be sent to the control room at the DCAS. The vehicle is the first green vehicle in the country and uses solar panels to operate. Its automated system also make the interior bacteria-free.
He also said that a device called the Electronic Patient Care Report (EPCR) will send details and the condition of the patient to the intended hospital before the patient arrives so that doctors can be fully ready.
Being fully automated means that two medics can do the work of four people with help of an automated stretcher, EPCR and a cardiac CPR machine.
Also to be launched soon is the paediatric ambulance. The ambulance has been designed specifically for the upcoming children’s Al Jalila Hospital. It will incorporate latest technology onboard such as LED TV, DVD, Playstation, iPad, games, magazines, music to entertain the child and an accompanying family member while being transported to the hospital.
