To all the yogis who like to play, are you ready for a new challenge in your practice? KT went on a discovery and found a new fitness trend called "Wheel Yoga". Now there maybe some controversy over a spiritual practice turning into a balancing act/circus play, but in its own right I personally found it a great new strengthening exercise for the mind and body.
We did a workshop with Lina Zoghaib, who works under the platform "yogi truck" and was giving a trial workshop in 136.1 yoga studio Dubai Marina last week. What I enjoyed about it, although I did become highly frustrated, it really tested my fear and resistance levels whilst eagerly trying to find my centre in each pose. In general, balance takes practice, but to then take that balance and stand on a flexible wheel made of plastic, your protective instincts really do kick in and I had to work really hard to not just give up on trying.
A resting squat pose
Balancing effortlessly on the wheel...its alot harder than it looks!
From planks, sit ups, back bends, press ups to stretching, supporting and balancing asanas. You name it, Lina taught each movement with added wheel. There were times I just thought it seemed impossible, even with the wall as an extra guide! Yet since leaving the class, I have an extreme desire to go back and try again... or maybe thats just my competitive streak getting the better of me!
