A total of 714,232 residents visited Dubai's Primary Healthcare Centres (PHC) for family care in 2015, according to the statistics revealed by Dubai Health Authority's annual book. The book contains medical data of last year for policy making and research purposes.
According to the data, 184,554 people visited PHCs for dental care and 187,994 visited PHC's 24-hour clinics. Dubai's PHCs include of 13 health centres and peripheral clinics across the emirate, offering a ratio of one health centre or clinic for every 30,000 individuals.
"Having access to such data for studies and benchmarking is critical for learning more about how well the services and system in place are working, this is vital to better create strategies and developmental plans that are effective and of benefit to the people of Dubai, hence fulfilling the vision of the DHA and the Government of Dubai," Dr Dhoha Al Awadhi, Head of Office & Specialist at PHC, said.
Dr Dhoha Al Awadhi said statistics also revealed that a notable number of pregnant women, 23,803, visited PHC for pregnancy care and the majority of the births in 2015 was in October, with 2,356 births. She said in 2015, PHCs received 6,280 residents for pre-marriage medical tests and issued 1,559 medical reports.
Al Awadhi said PHCs conducted 280 health awareness campaigns in 2015 that benefited 33,258 Dubai residents.
