From opening of the world's largest wellness village at the Dubai Healthcare City to introduction of new 3D technology in healthcare that is changing lives, the 41st edition of Arab Health Exhibition and Congress saw thousands of visitors on the first day on Monday.
Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, inaugurated the event that is being held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre until January 28.
The impact of 3D printing in healthcare has been groundbreaking with companies now looking to print whole and functioning organs and not just models to assist in medical procedures. "3D printing is already being used in the region with much success, and it truly does revolutionise healthcare," said Dr Nizar Zein, Chief of Hepatology and chairman of Cleveland Clinic Global Patient Services.
Announcements
A number of major announcements were also made on the first day including the launch of the wellness village in DHCC's second phase slated to open in the next four years to the new fully-computerised robotic solutions at the Cardiac Centre of Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah.
Many memorandums of understanding are expected to be signed over the next few days, according to Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Minister of Health.
Health experts said that the region faced a number of health issues and undiagnosed diseases. "Preventable lifestyle diseases, such as type-II diabetes have for long burdened the region, however, new advancements in medicine may soon bring relief to many, say expert physicians visiting the congress said.
