Six cancer patients, including a 3-year-old Lebanese boy, will benefit from a 'Mercithon' event that will be held at Dubai's Creek Park on February 24.
The day-long inter-community walkathon hopes to raise Dh650,000 for cancer patients.
Adam Kassem, a three-year-old Lebanese cancer patient, who needs Dh250,000 for his annual treatment, will be one of the six beneficiaries of the walkathon.
The walkathon has been approved by the Islamic Affairs & Charitable Activities Department, and supported by the UAE Red Crescent and Dubai Municipality.
"We are happy to draw our inspiration from UAE leaders, including the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who have supported inter-community collaboration in acts of mercy," said Rev. Fr. Lennie Connully, Parish Priest of St. Mary's Church, Dubai, organisers of the event.
The Mercithon will take place from 8am to 4pm in a carnival atmosphere, featuring fun events, rides, games and food stalls.
Tickets are available at St. Mary's Church premises, priced at Dh50 each. Tickets will entitle buyers to enter a lucky draw.
