The emergency department of the Dubai Hospital has been expanded to include 56 beds from the current 25.
Essa Al Maidoor, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), on Sunday inaugurated the expanded emergency department of the hospital.
Al Maidoor said, “The expansion will increase the bed capacity from 25 to 56. Previously, there was one emergency department for male, female and paediatric patients. Now, with the expansion, we have divided it into two sections: Emergency A, which is for male patients and Emergency B, which is for female and pediatric patients.
“In addition, the previous set-up of a dedicated area with four beds for gynaecological emergencies will continue to exist but in a different area.”
He said the move will enhance the capacity and patient care. It will also provide more privacy for patients at the hospital.
About 350 patients are seen at the hospital’s emergency department on a daily basis. The unit has 100 nurses and 34 doctors of various specialities.
The expansion project for Rashid Hospital’s Trauma Centre is also underway and when complete, it will double the existing capacity.
