The American Hospital Dubai may be the first private hospital in the region providing US standards of care but its mission includes improving health and wellbeing at the community level.
Having provided top-quality healthcare in the Middle East for more than 20 years, American Hospital Dubai has distinguished itself in the region through its unique and pioneering approach: all doctors are North American Board Certified (or Western equivalent) and its prestigious partnership with the Mayo Clinic offers invaluable access to the expertise of one of the world's leading healthcare institutions. Throughout its history, American Hospital Dubai has remained laser-focused on continuously discovering innovative ways to deliver high-quality care without compromise, from the pioneering introduction of new digital technologies to evolving models of patient-centric care.
The latest step in American Hospital Dubai's expansion is American Hospital Clinics, stepping out to provide primary care within communities and the opportunity to experience the same high standard of seamless care as provided at the main hospital campus in Dubai.
As Dr. Robert Courtney-Harris, Chief Medical Officer and Acting CEO at American Hospital Dubai, explains: "The move in the region towards providing greater and more convenient access to primary care is already happening, with primary care specialists increasingly embedded within communities. This means more patients will access care closer to work, home or even on the move."
Through the collaboration with Mayo Clinic - named the most-trusted healthcare provider in the United States -American Hospital Dubai demonstrates its commitment to the very highest clinical and service standards set by the Mayo Clinic Care Network, after becoming the first hospital in the region to join this select group of international providers.
In addition, American Hospital Dubai has been awarded College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation for a ninth time and Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation for the seventh time, both are pioneering distinctions (the hospital was the first private institution in the region to achieve these accreditations) that underscore the hospital's continued commitment to clinical excellence and patient outcomes, providing the highest-quality patient care possible.
And by launching its first primary care clinic, American Hospital Dubai has opened the door to enhancing access to care for families and communities located in newer areas in Dubai.
A key element of this success is American Hospital Dubai's commitment to investment in advanced technology that offers cutting-edge new possibilities. Not only does this technology help to diagnose patients more quickly and give them added peace of mind, but it also guides treatment and supports the introduction of more targeted treatments and minimally invasive procedures; healthcare technology also supports effective health screening and monitoring to assist with disease prevention and management.
"All of these new developments reflect an increasing emphasis on wellness and disease prevention," says Dr. Robert. "And that is what we all want to see - longer, healthier, positive and fulfilling lives for all members of the family at every stage of life."
Looking forward, Dr. Robert is confident that American Hospital Dubai is positioned to lead healthcare innovation in the UAE. New services set to launch in the near future focus on developments in a number of different areas, including orthopaedics as well as heart and cancer care. The advances being made at American Hospital Dubai are a key driver of Dubai's emergence as a destination for 'healthcare tourism' in the UAE and wider region.
"Healthcare is moving from the traditional model of treating sickness, towards predictive models that will help us anticipate health issues in individuals and offer a more personalised and targeted form of treatment where necessary," adds Dr. Robert. "There's a growing sense of a shared responsibility - between care providers and the communities we serve - to prevent disease and nurture wellness.  American Hospital Dubai will be at the forefront of this significant transformation."
