'Hasana' system to unify vaccination records in Dubai

With the aim of managing and containing the spread of communicable diseases, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) launched Hasana, an integrated electronic public health system for disease surveillance and management.
The system will integrate all DHA and private health facilities in Dubai, to provide a single immunisation record for each individual in all health facilities in Dubai.
Hasana, which was launched on Tuesday at the School of Research Science, will be used by all public health providers in Dubai - government and private - such as schools, hospitals and clinics to manage immunisation, investigations and outbreaks.
This integrated disease surveillance and management system is linked to school health as it will aid schools in managing students' immunisation and plan and deliver mass immunisation campaigns in schools.
Hasana aims to provide all 281,577 private school students with immunisation records.
The total number of students who will be getting vaccination from April 22 to May 16 is 1,511 while the expected number of students to be vaccinated until the end of the academic year is 23,158.
Following the launch, Humaid Al Qattami, Chairman of the Board and Director-General of the DHA, said Hasana is an important addition to the overall projects and initiatives implemented by the DHA.
Dr Manal Taryam, CEO of primary healthcare sector, said the system will support the DHA's strategy of integrating government and private health facilities and partners, enabling all of them to access the same immunisation data and ensure complete and high quality care for all.
She added that it will also equip decision makers in Dubai with the necessary tools to prevent, detect and manage the outbreak of communicable diseases in an efficient manner, hence allowing better planning of resources and manpower and allocate them where there is pressing needs.
Hasana will also improve the productivity of the healthcare staff, allowing the providers to direct their efforts fully to the patient's care and provide a smart application to manage and administer school mass immunisation campaigns.
Dr Taryam added that parents of a child living in Dubai will be able to view child's vaccination schedule from their mobile, get reminders when their child is due for a vaccination by using Tifli mobile application, hence ensuring that they won't be immunised multiple times and that they are safe from communicable diseases.
Children will also not have to worry about losing their consent forms while nurses will no longer carry papers and logbooks around during immunisations, but will use a scanner to send documents to the DHA.
Amani Al Jassmi, director of IT at the DHA, said that this public health solution for disease surveillance management system will integrate all the DHA and private health facilities in Dubai, providing a single immunisation record for each client in all health facilities in Dubai and a robust system to manage and contain the spread of communicable diseases.
