The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHP) has launched a national health awareness campaign specifically designed for the holy month of Ramadan.
The campaign, launched through the ministry's Management of Health Education and Promotion Department, aims to educate community members on the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles and choosing healthy food items during Ramadan.
As part of the event, a series of key events will take place in food establishments and shopping centres such as the Sharjah Cooperative Society- Halwan Branch, City Centre Ajman, Fujairah City Centre, Al Ittihad Mall, Rak Mall, and Manama Hypermarket.
Several activities have already been lined up, while 'Smart Shopping' was launched to help the public plan for Ramadan.
'Smart Shopping' contains basic information on the health benefits of fruits and vegetables, division of meals during Ramadan, and alternative healthy food items in a bid to encourage the public to replace oily and salty food with baked or grilled meals.
Dr Fadila Sharif, director of the ministry's Health Education and Promotion Department, said the campaign will boost the ministry's strategy to raise awareness on the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle.
Ramadan, Dr. Sharif added, is an opportunity for individuals to commit to a balanced healthy diet, at least 30-minute of daily physical exercise, and stop smoking.
"It will also encourage people to drop their unhealthy habits of drinking soft drinks and overeating. It is recommended to take three dates with a cup of low-fat milk or water before eating a meal to save energy and avoid indigestion and weight gain," she said.
