From focusing on how hypertension can lead to heart disease to how shedding the extra flab will go a long way in ensuring you live a healthy life, Khaleej Times campaign 'KT For Good' Health Matters comes to a close today.
With four common lifestyle diseases being the centre of discussion for the past two weeks, the campaign brought its readers, viewers and netizens a 360-degree angle on issues that can impact their health as individuals and as a society on the whole.
We brought you real-life stories from people who had been impacted one way or the other by the diseases and they, in turn, inspired hundreds of thousands of others.
People's stories were supported by expert opinions on how diseases can be managed and treated in the best possible manner. The experts gave tips and tricks, best medication options, diet plans and exercising tips as well.
The campaign could not be complete without the support of our partners, the Aster Group, who provided our readers with 150 vouchers offering free health check-ups.
The newly opened Aster Hospital Qusais provided 100 free vouchers worth Dh530 each for this campaign, which were won through an online competition. The package covered height, weight, blood pressure, BMI, RBS, total cholesterol, nephrology consultation and dietician consultation. Additionally, Aster Clinics provided 150 vouchers worth Dh300 each including doctor consultations for our initiative. This voucher also covered height, weight, BP, BMI, RBS (machine test), total cholesterol (machine test) along with a GP consultation in 16 clinics across the country.
One of the winners of the Aster competition, Alexandra Neschetna said: "I took part in the contest through the KT website and thought why not enter it since it is health related.
"I got a call that I won. So now I am going to do a health check-up with Aster and get my fitness on."
"I feel health is important. unlike abroad where you can jog and get healthy, this is not always an option here," she said.
Our online polls and competitions showed that people still do not pay enough attention to their health, which should be their top priority. However, this is just the beginning and we will keep bringing many more such campaigns to raise awareness among our readers.
