More parents in the UAE are seeking professional help for their troubled teenagers, according to a leading Dubai clinical psychologist.
According to a 2013 Dubai Health Authority study, about one in five teenage students in the emirate showed symptoms of depression.
Dr. Thoraiya Kanafani of the Human Relations Institute and Clinics said the increase follows growing parental acceptance of the impact modern-day living has on teenagers.

There are some key tell-tale signs parents should watch out for. Signs and symptoms of depression in children include:  
1  Persistent sadness
 
2 Irritable moods

3 Diminished interest or pleasure in almost all activities
4 Appetite and sleeping pattern changes

5 Inability to concentrate

6 Over-thinking

7 Feelings of panic, fear and uneasiness
