A two-week-old baby girl is the UAE's youngest deceased organ donor, after her parents decided that saving a person's life with her organs was better than saving none.
With her two kidneys, the baby, who weighed just under 3kg, helped save the life of a 48-year-old woman. The woman has regained her health, is off dialysis and is leading a normal life, a top official revealed.
The baby had died just two weeks after birth from complications, Dr Ali Abdul Kareem Al Obaidli, chair of the National Organ Transplant Committee, told Khaleej Times. "Her parents ... feel that their deceased daughter made a difference."
"Many families want to contribute and save lives, and many families feel that organ donation makes the grieving period easier," he said on Tuesday, on the sidelines of the 'Donate for Life', which is said to be the largest organ donation workshop.
