Following the late withdrawal of hot favourite Raeaa W’Rsan, all eyes were on Naseem Al Reef who failed to live up to the expectations.
However, Kerbell Lotois did nothing wrong and travelled very nicely to lead from the wire to the wire in the round the track 2400m trip.
In the second race, Tadhg O’Shea beat front runner Shama by more than seven lengths to land the Al Wathba Stud Farm contest for UAE-Bred Maiden sponsored by Abu Dhabi Culture and Heritage at Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club here on Sunday.
The five-year-old daughter of Madour raced on the outside and went wide as the pack hit the home stretch, but responded keenly in the concluding stages to fly home.
O’Shea said she’s an honest mare that didn’t need more than a light reminder and shake of the reigns.
In the opening race of the evening, Bani Yas Handicap for Purebred Arabians, top Irish jockey Wayne Smith partnered GRP Baghdad to victory. GRP Baghdad did the better work when it mattered in the final stages of the closely contested 1400m trip.
MH Wafi came from nowhere under Patrick Dobbs to win the Shahama Handicap from the mount Ted Durcan the grey mare Waneessah W’Rsan.
In the fifth race, Bareq held on very strongly close home under Wayne Smith to win by a short-head from fast finishing Das Jalabi, while hot favourite Muntaliq, under Richard Hills, finished back in third.
Tadhg O’Shea completed a double aboard the Rashid Al Raihe-trained Ramadi to win the Thoroughbreds Maiden final race, the only Thoroughbred contest on the card. O’Shea extended his lead over the jockeys championship to four winners and Al Raihe enhanced his lead over the trainers championship ahead of defending champion Doug Watson.
