Kauto Star’s regular rider Ruby Walsh is out of action with a broken leg and his replacement, Noel Fehily, stood down on Wednesday as he continued to struggle with a wrist injury suffered last month.
Fehily told At The Races TV: “I could have dragged it on for a few more days, but I know myself it’s not getting any better.”
McCoy, voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year on Sunday, is on track for a 16th jump jockeys’ title in succession. Kauto Star, winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 2007 and 2009, is even-money favourite for Sunday’s showpiece.
