The Bisaat-e-Raqs (The Dancing Floor) showcase will take place this Saturday at DUCTAC Theatre in Mall of the Emirates. The event will feature a number of performers for an evening of folk music and artistry inspired by iconic poets.

Popular dancer and choreographer Sheema Kermani will give new life to the words penned by legendary poets Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Ameer Khusrau when she takes to the stage for her first performance in the UAE. Kermani is a well-known activist for women’s rights and is the founder of Tehrik-e-Niswan, an action group devoted to working for women’s development through theatre and cultural work.

The exciting programme will also feature famed artist Adeel Hashmi who will recite the revolutionary poetry inspired by the letters written during Faiz’s years in prison. Musician Asad Anees will accompany Hashmi on piano with pieces including Beethoven’s Hammerklavier. At 24 years old, Anees is Pakistan’s youngest piano protégé and the only pianist from his country to have performed at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City. Tickets start at Dhs200 and are available online at www.ductac.org and at the DUCTAC box office. For details call 04 341 4777.
