EMIRATI FASHION DESIGNER Zareena Yousuf will pay tribute to the Taj Mahal, as she unveils her latest evening wear collection tonight from 7.30pm.

Zareena’s bi-annual fashion show, to be held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre Hall 5, will showcase her latest creations, featuring complex embroidery detail woven into the jalabiyas - similar to the intricate patterns immortalised on the stone monument in Agra. The extreme detailing means that every Zareena creation takes around 200 to 600 hours of hand-crafted embroidering – executed by her team of over 20 artisans.

“There is a deeper connection between fashion and architecture, whether by shape, colour, material or simply location,” said Zareena. “As a child, I have always been fascinated by some of the architectural landmarks around the world, especially the Taj Mahal, which continues to inspire many creations and designs. My latest fashion line recognises the Taj Mahal’s undiluted stature as an eternal symbol of love.”

Since 2002, Zareena has launched two shows every year featuring her own collections.

“Putting together a new show is always a challenge to any designer. You have to come up with a specific concept, direction, set design, programme, theme and music in order to remain relevant and innovative among your customers,” she added.
