He just can’t stay away. After Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie teased pics of the Empty Quarter last month, main star Tom Cruise has been spotted in a Tweeted picture taking in The Louvre marking at least the third film-related visit to the UAE after 2011’s Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol in Dubai and Fallout in 2018 which was partly shot in Abu Dhabi.

Cruise, 58, appeared alongside Hamad Al Hosani outside the capital’s museum on Saturday. Dressed head to toe in black, it was not immediately apparent if the movie star was completing scenes for the latest M:I instalment or marveling at the establishment’s priceless treasures for fun.

"Every time I meet him, he tells me, 'I love Abu Dhabi, I love your country'," Hosani’s social media post reads in English and Arabic.

McQuarrie also took to social media to announce his picture’s wrapping up.

“What makes the desert beautiful is that somewhere it hides a well - Antoine De Saint Exupery,” the filmmaker wrote on Instagram affixed to a picture of a lone figure on horseback in the dunes. The process of putting together a film in the UAE, McQuarrie also noted, made his and the crew’s life far easier.

“Grace and graciousness, magic and majesty, hospitality and hope. Of the many challenges we’ve faced on our journey, none will be greater than outshining the gifts Abu Dhabi has given us.

“On behalf of our entire cast and crew, sincerest and most heartfelt thanks to the Government of Abu Dhabi, His Excellency Mohamed Al Mubarak, the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, twofour54, Etihad Airways and CEO Tony Douglas, ADAC and CEO Shareef Al Hashmi, HM Ambassador to the UAE Patrick Moody, The United States Marine Corp and all of our incredible military personnel.

“And, of course, thanks to our extraordinary local cast, crew and the very fine people of Abu Dhabi. We shall most sincerely miss you until we see you again.”

The director then stated the team was returning to London to finish off the project.

“All aboard for our greatest challenge yet...”
