Fans of Indian theatre are in for a treat as a new play hits the stage this weekend.

The upcoming production of Veran Vagade Ugyaa Phool (A Flower Growing From Barren Land) will feature local amateur actors when it launches on April 17 at The Indian High School in Dubai. The play, directed and written by Dr. Shailesh Upadhaya, will be performed primarily in the Gujarati language with English and Hindi woven throughout.

The production is a dramatic rendition of the issue of surrogacy as it follows an Indian couple living in the United States who are struggling to have a child. The script tackles many topics including exploitation and the many emotions couples go through when trying to build a family.
