Haryana village head found murdered; minister accused
KARNAL (HARYANA) - A Haryana minister and a senior government functionary have landed in trouble after a village sarpanch (headman) was found murdered. His son has accused them of murder and criminal conspiracy.
According to the police, Karam Singh, in his late 50s, was found murdered by unidentified persons on Tuesday. He had submitted a written complaint on Monday to the Haryana chief minister and Karnal police against state Transport Minister Om Prakash Jain and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Zile Ram Sharma regarding a fraud case.
Singh had accused Jain and Sharma of duping him of nearly Rs.1.3 million promising government jobs to his son and two nephews. But they neither provided the jobs nor returned the money.
Following this, he sent a written complaint against them to Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s office Monday.
Singh’s body, bearing stab wounds, was found near the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) here on Tuesday.
His son Rajinder Singh alleged that his father was killed at the behest of Jain and Sharma.
“My father had left home for Zile Ram’s house Tuesday morning. Then he called me after sometime and said that he was going to the PWD (public works department) rest house with Zile Ram’s aides.
“Thereafter, he did not contact us and in the afternoon we got news about his murder,” Rajinder Singh said here on Wednesday.
“I am very sure that my father was murdered by Zile Ram’s men. He was furious as my father had complained against him and the transport minister. We want murder case registered against them (Jain and Sharma). Police is not cooperating with us,” he added.
Police have registered a murder case against unidentified persons.
“We have received a complaint from Karam Singh’s son. So far we have registered a case of murder against unknown persons and our investigation is on. Karam Singh was murdered with sharp-edged weapons,” said a police officer here.
