A 65-year-old Indian woman recently gave birth to a health baby girl and claims to have become the oldest mother in the world. The unnamed woman's husband, 80-year-old Hakim Din thanked Allah for the precious gift.
The elderly couple who already has a son aged between 8 and 10 years, are now seeking financial help from the government to raise their newborn daughter, according to Daily Mail. Terming the birth a 'rarest of rare' case, Dr Shabir Sidiqui, a maternity specialist from Kashmir said, "Usually menopause sets in at the age of 47 years in India. Once it sets in, there is no possibility (of giving birth). But this is a rare one."
If the woman has conceived naturally then she could become the oldest mother in the world to have conceived without IVF. She is said to have gone into labour on December 26 and delivered the baby at a hospital in a remote part of Kashmir. Most women who give birth after the age of 50, rely on IVF treatment and have already gone through menopause.
Although the world's oldest verified mother is 66-year-old Maria del Carmen Bousada de Lara from Spain who gave birth to twins via IVF in 2006, there are several women who have claimed to have children at much more advanced ages. Another Indian woman named Daljinder Kaur, 72, claimed in April 2016 to have given birth to a son via IVF after two failed treatments.
