In a tragic incident, a 19-year-old engineering student hanged himself to death in his hostel room to donate his kidneys to his ailing brother.
However, his kidneys could not be harvested for donation as his body had already started decomposing.
Naitikkumar Tandel hailed from Pardi in Valsad, Gujarat, and was a second-year engineering student at Babaria Institute of Technology at Varnama.
Tandel was found hanging to a ceiling fan in his institute's hostel room by his roommate in the wee hours on Saturday. On searching the room, police discovered a suicide note Tandel left behind urging them to not probe his death and question anyone, especially his parents. The note mentioned that his kidneys should be donated to his elder brother Kenish, 24, who is on dialysis since few years as both his kidneys are dysfunctional. "He (Tandel) mentioned in the note that his other organs should also be donated to needy persons," a police official said
Tandel's body was taken to SSG Hospital where the doctors examined the body and revealed that the student must have died 36 hours before his body was found. Hence, it had started to decompose. According to police, Tandel reached his institute on 20 June as the third semester was to begin a week later and also wrote an email informing his roommate that he had arrived.
His grieving mother told police that when she last spoke to him on 20 June there were no signs of depression or discomfort, according to The Times of India report.
