Kunhalikutty is the richest in Kerala cabinet

TRIVANDRUM — Industry Minister P K Kunhalikutty, whose wealth is under the investigation of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, is the richest among 20 ministers in the Congress-led United Democratic Front ministry in Kerala.

According to the declarations of wealth by chief minister Oommen Chandy and his team, the movable and immovable assets of Kunhalikutty are claimed to be to the tune of Rs14 million. His wealth includes 13.22 acres of land and 106 sovereigns of gold.

P K Jayalakshmi, who is the lone women minister in the UDF cabinet, is the poorest among the ministers. Her assets are 1.7 acres of agriculture land in her home district of Wayanad and Rs.200,000 in bank deposits.

The chief minister and Labour Minister Shibhu Baby John are in debt. Chandy, who has a personal saving of over Rs.25,000 has an outstanding education loan of Rs450,000 he had taken for the higher education of his son.

Chandy’s wife, who is a bank employee, however, has a wealth of Rs2.8 million. Shibhu Baby John, who is involved in various businesses, is grappling with a debt of Rs11.6 million.

The wealth of Social Welfare Minister Dr MK Muneer is Rs2.8 million, Transport Minister V S Sivakumar Rs500, 000, Excise Minister K Babu Rs700, 000, Revenue Minister Thiruvanchiyoor Radhakrishnan and Forest Minister Ganesh Kumar Rs1.1 million each, Public Work Minister Ibrahim Kunju and Cooperation Minister C N Balakrishnan Rs2.2 million each.

Health Minister Adoor Prakash has declared 20 acres of land as his wealth. Five ministers including Water Resources Minister P J Joseph are yet to declare their wealth.

The ministers have declared their wealth as per the 100 days’ programme announced by the government while assuming office. However, sources said the wealth declared by most ministers was not complete. Many of them have not given the true value of the land possessed by them.
