Veteran politician and senior leader of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Makhdoom Amin Fahim died in the early hours of Saturday at a private hospital in Karachi after protracted illness. He was 76.
Fahim was diagnosed with blood cancer and had been in critical condition for some time. He was brought back to Pakistan recently via an air ambulance.
He had earlier undergone lump surgery in Berlin. He was to be taken to Boston in October but doctors dropped the plan after his condition did not permit. He remained under post-surgery treatment in London until he was flown to Dubai and then eventually to Karachi.
Former federal minister and senior vice-chairman of the PPP, Fahim was a member of the National Assembly from Hala (NA-218) Sindh. He was also spiritual leader of the Sarwari Jamaat.
Condolences started to pour in with several politicians voicing their grief over the demise of the senior leader.
President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of Makhdoom Amin Fahim.
The prime minister prayed for eternal peace and tranquility for the departed soul and commiserated with the bereaved family.
Pakistan Peoples Party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari also expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of the PPP leader.
He said the death of Amin Fahim is a huge loss for the party.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani, PPP leader Taj Haider, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman, Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid, Pakistan Tehreek-e Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Asfandyar Wali Khan, Aftab Shepao and a number of political leaders have also condoled the death of Amin Fahim.
