Water Resources Minister Faisal Vawda on Wednesday said groundbreaking ceremony of the much-awaited Mohmand dam project would be held on January 13.

Addressing a Press conference here, he said work on Mohmand dam was being kicked off and expressed hope that it would be completed before its scheduled time.

The minister said anti-state forces and enemy countries had created many controversies to delay such mega projects. However, he said all hitches have been removed and now the project was going to be materialised.

Dispelling the impression of favoritism in awarding contract to CGGC-Descon for construction of Mohmand dam, he clarified that the contract was awarded to the company before the inception of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government.

"Neither Wapda, nor any minister can award contract to any company," he said and added speculation about the contract was totally baseless as the entire process had been undertaken with utmost transparency and without any favour or fear, he said.

The minister said the contract was technically evaluated by experts adding that it was awarded purely on merit.

Vawda said he was only answerable to the prime minister. "He is not servant of anyone particularly 'Showbaaz Sharif' to appear before Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on one day notice," he said.

He said no one would be allowed to do political point-scoring adding that he had directed his ministry that no one would appeared before the PAC on single day notice. - APP
