Gates bought this oil painting (Lost on the Grand Banks by Winslow Homer) in 1998 for US $36 million, making it the most expensive American painting ever sold back then.

One of the fastest street-legal production cars, the Porsche 959 is a collector’s prize. The ‘Gates 959’ was famously stored for 13 years at the Port of Seattle, till regulations were relaxed.

The Codex Leicester is a 72-page notebook, filled with Leonardo da Vinci’s handwritten musings and theories, which Gates bought for US $30.8 million in 1994. It is the most expensive book ever sold.

Bill first met his wife Melinda in 1987 and the pair married in a lavish US $1 million ceremony in 1994 in Hawaii.
