With over 1,00,000 followers on Instagram, 28-year-old Mona Kattan is one of the most followed fashionistas in the UAE. Originally from Iraq, her family moved here from the US when she was 17, and soon after, she enrolled at American University of Sharjah, where she studied finance, and took up a job in the field soon after. Her first love has always been beauty and fashion, and she left her job to start up her own company Mastermind PR, before going on to co-found and establish The Dollhouse — one of the most popular salons in the city — with her best friend. She also works with her sister Huda Kuttan — a famous beauty blogger in the region. Mona is often spotted at events in Dubai sporting outfits that are feminine and quirky, with a touch of retro — that sets her apart from the rest of the swish set.

Her super-organised wardobe is a mix of a few basic pieces and quirky glamorous ones, which she loves to accessorise. “I love accessories! In fact, one of the faux pas I’d made when I was younger was wearing a ton of it together,” she laughs.

As far as trends go, she doesn’t believe in following any, and has no qualms about people sporting them either. “Fashion should be fun, and there is nothing wrong in experimenting with a style, irrespective of whether it is in trend or not. I do believe though, that everyone should buy clothes that are the right size, fit and cut for their body type,” says Mona.

She loves shopping while travelling, with London and Paris being her favourite destinations. In Dubai, she loves picking up quirky pieces from boutiques like Valleydez, s*uce and West LA. Her style is often compared to Lana Del Rey’s, and she admits she is one of her fashion icons along with Grace Kelly, Rihanna and Sheikha Moza. “When it comes to fashion, I don’t think there are any set rules, I love seeing people wear whatever they want,” she smiles.
