What: Head of GCC — Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
How do you typically start your workday?
I am an early riser. I wake up every morning at around 6am and love to head out for a walk with my baby pug, Pooks. This is my mini workout for my mind, body and soul, and a time to reflect and connect with nature.
Describe your work in a sentence.
A majority of my work at CIMA involves nurturing and equipping young talent with essential business and finance skills who can contribute not just to their organisation’s success, but also to the progress and growth of the UAE’s economy.
What is your #1 personal principle/success mantra at work?
“Sincerely believe in what you do”. To know if your love for your work is genuine or not, you have to check if your passion is true and deep-rooted. If you are proud of what you do, it will drive you beyond just ticking the boxes.
In your workday, what is the one thing you cannot do without?
Data connection on my mobile phone. It is my lifeline and you will never find me without my phone. I depend on it for emails, Google maps, fitness apps, or just plain group chats with friends and family. I often wonder how we functioned without seamless data on our phones about a decade ago!
Most challenging project to date?
I would rather call it highly inspiring — CIMA’s first GCC-wide convocation ceremony has been the most motivating project to date. The invitee list included individuals who represented the vision of the UAE and inspired the whole nation.
Who’s your role model as the perfect professional?
Bill Gates, for his never-give-up attitude. He has the right attitude, competitive trait, talent and a vision for the future. I also have an immense respect for his charity foundation, through which he gives back to the global community.
Your favourite indulgence when you need a break from work?
I love listening to music, from soft rock to heavy metal. I am also an adventure junkie — from bungee jumping and sky diving to off-roading across the deserts of Liwa. If I am not working, this is what you will find me doing.
What is your greatest dream, professionally?
My biggest dream is to become a motivational speaker. I love listening to TED talks and similar inspirational discourses. It’s important to keep the spirit of learning alive throughout your life.
