Over-crowded rooms are not only in Mussafah, it’s everywhere in the UAE because rents are skyrocketing and people are forced to compromise. Moreover, it is difficult for low-income families to afford a separate home, and they opt for sharing accommodations. Tenants are also abusing the law by one person owning the tenancy contract and then giving it on sub-leasing/sub-contract, especially in areas like Al Karama, Deira, Al Barsha, International City, Rashidiya etc in Dubai. Same is the case in other emirates as well.
Almost everywhere people are flouting the rules. The actual rent is around 70,000 for 2-BHK in Karama and the monthly cost of it would be anywhere between AED 5,800. But by giving the flat on sharing, the landlord makes much more money as they give per room without attached bathroom at AED 2,500 and with master bedroom costing AED 4,000 — and the hall is given to working bachelors on bed-space basis, which can easily accommodate five people for AED 700 each.
The authorities concerned are requested to look into such irregularities.
