Dismal picture

We start our day with the daily newspaper. And the front-page photograph is the first thing to catch the eye. Unfortunately, in today’s world, most of the time the news is miserable, be it the civil war in Syria, terrorist attacks in Kenya, gang rape in India or church attacks in Pakistan. So is it necessary to put photographs of such grim incidents on the first page when the reports are powerful enough to convey what is happening?

There are people who face adverse situations bravely and triumph over them. But such people are never covered in the news. Is it necessary to ruin the reader’s day with gloom and sorrow? We don’t like to keep newspapers open in the living room for fear that our teenaged children will ask us questions about the catastrophes and we have to tell them every day that there in no hope for the world.
