This is in response to the comments published in Khaleej Times (March 23, 2013), Earth Hour. Everyone has the habit of telling others to do things they don’t practice it themselves.
Earth Hour is an event organised to encourage household and businesses to switch off the non-essential lights for one hour to create awareness. It is a very important event as we are trying to save the earth by switching off all non-essential lights. It takes place between 8.30pm and 9.30pm for one hour during the night. Instead of switching the lights on we switch them off and light candles instead. On 23rd March 2013, we annually celebrated the 7th earth hour. For that particular time period all the lights were switched off. Even the lights of Burj Khalifa in Dubai, Al Qasba in Sharjah, and the Singapore Flyer were all switched off.
Even though most of us are aware that we should avoid squandering away electricity, we still end up wasting it on a daily basis. Switching off the non-essentials will actually end up reducing our electricity bill.
