This letter is with regards to the column, What do you mean you don't know me? I'm your conscience (KT, Oct 9). Conscience is our inner voice, mostly formed by our upbringing. Many a time we hear people saying, 'I wonder how his/her conscience does not prick'. It is a common statement when the person in question is crude, rude, selfish, unjust or acts abrasively.
People with a perfect temperament and good values often act with precision, see that they do not hurt others deliberately, give credit to the deserving ones and do not hog the limelight. People who possess self-control deny all allurements and remain calm and composed. For such people, their conscience is their guiding force.
Poor nurturing, toxic peer pressure, instant gratification and the notion that any behaviour is acceptable, make folks behave irrationally. But listening to our conscience is important to live a life without regrets. It is the voice of the soul.
