Remedial teaching

Remedial teaching is identifying slow learners and giving the necessary guidance, support and encouragement to help them overcome their areas of difficulties. Remedial teaching is not revising the taught topics on a regular basis.

Careful analysis of the students’ performance in the class tests or examinations and diagnosing the key difficult areas are important aspects of effective remedial teaching. Teaching should be carried out in a slow and gradual manner in building up their base, without hurrying or pressurising the learners. In this process, great care and attention should be given to use most appropriate learning styles and effective memorising techniques.

In this context, it will be advantageous, if the teacher analyses the general background of the child in order to get an insight into the causes of slow learning with the help of parents.

Another effective method of implementing remedial academic programmes is through peer teaching. Every child is a symbol of love and he or she should be given a chance to explore his or her true potential in a stress free environment. Moreover, we need to focus on examinations that test the understanding of a student and not alone the facts or information memorised through rote learning.
