Teens are often labelled as audacious, brazen, brash and immature prone to taking unnecessary risks that put them into trouble. But allowing them to take certain positive risks help them grow and thrive (Give teens room to take risks and grow KT, Nov 17). Parents are often petrified of their teens as adolescence marks the onset of risky behaviour like drink driving, drug experimentation and close proximity with the opposite sex. Advice, counseling and sensitive handling are important if they fall prey to such negative risk-taking. Certain risk-taking decisions like taking team-sports, making friends, voluntary activities and career choice should be allowed. These are the positive. Too much interference and being overly protective hinders growth.
