UAE walks the talk on women empowerment

The new law ensuring equal pay for men and women comes as the best stride ever towards empowerment of women. Kudos to the UAE government on such a commendable initiative that is progressive and acknowledges the role of women in workplaces (Equal pay for men and women from today; KT, September 25). Equal pay will go a long way in bridging the gender gap and encourage more women to scale newer heights in their fields of expertise.
The move is noteworthy, especially as many nations are still struggling to establish laws that give women equal rights as men, leave alone talking of equal pay for men and women. If such measures are implemented in every sector, there is no second guessing that countries would benefit immensely in terms of economic growth, social integration, and cohesion. 
May equality prevail and give true meaning to the relentless work of leaders who kept this as the top priority. It is a great step during the pandemic where many women are struggling to make both ends meet due to the huge pay gaps. -Latha Narasimhan, Sharjah
