Gold truly never goes out of style and it is a metal you can sport anytime. Market trends may affect its popularity but the beauty of gold jewellery is that it never goes out of fashion. While rose gold was quite popular last year, this year is all about yellow gold making a dazzling comeback with retailers stocking a number of different styles in 22-carat and 24-carat.
After last year's larger-than-life statement pieces, 2016 is off to a more mellow start. This year the focus is on minimalistic pieces such as layers of thin rings, and skinny cuffs, among other such designs. Though simple, their striking design is what is what will be creating a dramatic impact. One of the best ways to wear the precious metal this year is by incorporating unique yet modest designs in your jewellery box that include sculptural cuffs, articulate necklaces and industrial-chic collars. One of the classy ways to wear the precious metal is in the form of slender bracelets that stack up to the wrist and single striking cocktail rings that leave a big impact.
The vintage look is touted to be one of the popular styles this season. A great way to style it is by sporting some ethnic gold Kundan necklaces with along with a slender modern necklace. This way you will also embrace the popular double-down necklace trend, which is all the rage this season.
Maang-tikkas are quite popular this season as seen at a number of Indian Fashion Shows this year, with both celebrities such as Sonam Kapoor and models rocking the trend. A great way to create a striking look is to take those heavy Kundan neckpieces and turn it into a crown style maang-tikka to get the desi version of a tiara for the ultimate princess look. Further, wearing those gorgeous polki earrings as a maang-tikka is a great way to go vintage.
Coming to earrings, chandelier earrings are definitely going to be a big trend this year as they can jazz up any outfit. They come in a number of intricate designs and can create captivating yet simplistic look and are a great option for a relaxed evening around town. But if you are opting for a heavily embellished outfit for a function, it's best to go minimal on jewellery, and the best way to get the right look is to opt for statement gold earrings such as jhoomars for a traditional look or versatile cocktail earrings.
Another popular trend this season is the use of geometric designs in all types of gold jewellery. The popular ones on the runway have been golden triangles that were used in both earrings and necklaces. Happy shopping!
