Emphasising that the UAE is taking concerted steps to further strengthen the country’s industrial sector the Director General said in a Press statement here that “The Ministry of Economy is currently developing the legal infrastructure for the industrial sector by updating legislations for patents, fees and industrial models.These legislations are in line with international regulations and will further strengthen the role of industries in the economy.”
Pointing out that the industries contribute to the development drive of the UAE, and plays a significant role in economic diversification, Al Shihhi said that the Ministry is also working to combat counterfeit and fake products to uphold the interests of the consumers and manufacturers.
Jamal Lootah, Executive Director of Industrial Sector at the Ministry of Economy, said the Ministry was currently in the process of issuing protection certificates for 607 industrial models to enable its owners to protect their products from imitation and counterfeiting.
“The first lot of these certificates was delivered to the Registration Office at the Ministry. We will finalise the rest of the certificates soon, and process all new applications at the earliest,” he added.
Jamal Lootah said that the Industrial Ownership Department at the Ministry of Economy is currently undertaking electronic archiving of patent applications in association with Metrofille Company and in co-ordination with the World Intellectual Property Organisation.
