The company bought “a controlling interest” in the Nobiskrug Shipyard, it said, without disclosing the size or value of its stake. Nobiskrug, which specialises in building luxury yachts, has built and launched more than 700 vessels and has five large yachts under construction, the statement said. Efforts to contact staff at Abu Dhabi MAR for details and clarification on Wednesday were unsuccessful.
Abu Dhabi MAR has four yachts under construction. It shares common ownership with the CMN Shipyard in Cherbourg, France, which has launched two vessels and is building a third, it said.
“The ten current builds among Nobiskrug, CMN, and Abu Dhabi MAR represent a significant portion of the global order book,” Abu Dhabi MAR said. About 75 yachts with a length of 60 meters or longer are now on order worldwide.
Nobiskrug is owned by Eagle River Deutschland GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Eagle River Capital Ltd. Guernsey, with a turnover of about €100 million. Founded in 1905, Nobiskrug has 420 employees. Its most recent launch is the World Superyacht Award-winning 74-metre “Siren.”
