The Statistics Center-Abu Dhabi said on Sunday that it had conducted the six surveys to monitor growth in sectors incuding banking, insurance, mining, manufacturing and electricity generation. A services sector survey covered restaurants, hotels, schools and hospitals.

The Statistics Center did not provide comparable economic data from previous years.

The surveys showed that the total value of economic activities in Abu Dhabi amounted to Dh688.3 billion, of which the industrial sector represented 65.5 per cent and construction activities, 11.4 per cent. Transportation, communication and storage activities accounted for 6.3 per cent of non-oil gross domestic product, while commercial activities and finance accounted for 5 per cent and 4.3 per cent, respectively.

Construction and services emerged as the emirate’s two largest employers, with 34.6 per cent and 24.5 per cent of the labour force, respectively. Around 1.09 million workers are employed in 67,546 firms in Abu Dhabi, the surveys found.

One survey showed that average annual wages and benefits per worker equalled Dh51,000. Paid-up capital deployed by businesses in Abu Dhabi amounted to a combined Dh178.3 billion, with the financial, services and industrial activities together representing 71 per cent of the total, the Statistics Center said.
