The appointment of AECOM to project manage the infrastructure component of the 4,900 hectare development was announced on Tuesday by the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council, or UPC, the agency responsible for the future physical planning of Abu Dhabi.
The Capital District is envisioned as the focus of government, academic and knowledge based sectors as part of the emirate’s comprehensive vision of the future entitled Plan Abu Dhabi 2030.
The Chief Executive of AECOM in the Middle East, David Barwell said, “We are delighted and proud to be part of shaping this exciting plan for the future of Abu Dhabi. AECOM has been operating in Abu Dhabi for the last 37 years and has grown alongside the development of the emirate so perhaps it is fitting that we take that partnership firmly into the 21st century.”
“Globally AECOM has been entrusted with the management and control of hundreds of major capital programs totalling over $300 billion across all continents. We are honoured to be working with the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council and to be part of this visionary project.”
