UAE Minister of Economy Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri was honoured by the Institute of Directors with the Golden Peacock Global Award for Leadership in Economic Transformation.
Al Mansouri was joined by Dr Shaikha Ali Salem Al Maskari, chairperson of Al Maskari Holding, who received the Golden Peacock Global Award for Lifetime Achievement in Business and Social Leadership.
"I dedicate the award to the Ministry of Economy," Al Mansouri said after receiving the award from Indian Ambassador to the UAE Navdeep Singh Suri.
Established by the IOD over 27 years ago, the Golden Peacock Awards are today recognised worldwide as the hallmark of excellence and stand out as unique for recognising corporate achievements.
Accepting the award, Al Maskari highlighted the strong relations between India and the UAE and spoke about how the UAE leadership has always provided opportunities for women who wanted to chase their dreams.
"I remember going to school and studying along with my brothers; my parents never held me back and instead encouraged me. Today, when I tell people that I am from the UAE, there is always a sense of awe and admiration for the incredible work that is being done in the country."
Other winners that received the Golden Peacock Awards for 2019 included Azizi Bank Afghanistan for the financial sector; Cummins India Pune for the engineering sector; JSW Energy Mumbai for the power sector; Ashok Leyland Chennai for the automobile sector; and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Mumbai for the defence equipment sector.
