The highlight cars were the newly launched Audi A5 Sportback, A5 Cabriolet and Audi R8 V10 accompanied by the new Audi Q7, S5 and many others. As a surprise reveal Audi presented the new Audi TT RS, a 340 bhp suped up version of the Audi TT, which was believed not to arrive to the region initially.

Jeff Mannering, Managing Director of Audi Middle East, stated in the official press conference “AUDI AG is investing 2 two billion Euros annually into new product development, and as the last months have shown clearly that this strategy has been successful. Not only is Audi making strong profits and continuing to hire during tough economic times, but has also become the leading premium brand in Europe and China and is on its way to become the hottest automotive brand in the Middle East region. The new products you see here at the Dubai Motor Show are the best proof of that.”

Audi’s star of the show, the new TT RS, sports a turbocharged five-cylinder 2.5-liter engine, which has a long tradition of powering cars like the legendary “Ur-quattro” rally car. Combined with FSI direct gasoline injection the TT RS produces 250 kW (340 hp) and 450 Nm of torque, yet consumes only 9.2 liters/100 km - another example of how Audi combines dynamics and efficiency.

In conjunction with quattro permanent all-wheel drive, Audi magnetic ride adaptive damping and a manual six-speed transmission, the powerful five-cylinder model offers explosive performance, making the compact Audi TT RS – whether the Coupé or the Roadster – a purist driving machine.

The TT RS Coupé rockets from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, the Roadster in 4.7 seconds. Peak torque of 450 Nm is available between 1,600 and 5,300 rpm, providing tremendous pulling power. Weighing only 1,450 kilograms, the Coupé boasts a power-to-weight ratio of only 4.3 kilograms per hp, for the Roadster (1,510 kilograms) 4.4 kilograms – the low values are made possible by the extremely lightweight bodies utilizing the Audi Space Frame (ASF). The ESP stabilization system has a Sport mode and can be completely deactivated.

The TT RS was recently awarded the title “Sports Car of the Year” by Auto Bild SportsCars magazine.
