All roads led to BurJuman on Thursday morning as hundreds of people living and working in the busy Bur Dubai area flocked to the mall in anticipation of the opening of a new Carrefour hypermarket in the popular shopping destination’s remodelled North Wing.
The new hypermarket opened for business with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that was attended by Leigh Regan, chief operating officer of BurJuman; Younis Al Mulla, senior vice-president of Majid Al Futtaim Retail; Henri Changeux, executive regional director of Majid Al Futtaim Carrefour for the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain; David Macadam, chief executive officer and vice-chairman of the Middle East Council of Shopping Centres; and other members of Carrefour senior management. The 5,780sqm hypermarket will serve as a key anchor tenant for BurJuman and is the first of several major retail and entertainment additions planned as part of the mall’s ongoing renovation and expansion project.
Located in the heart of Dubai, BurJuman is a distinctive landmark comprising over 2.8 million sqft of mixed-use space including the shopping mall, business tower, hotel suites and duplex residences.
