Fierce winds hindering firefighting efforts and fuelling the fire

Football fans in the UAE are going the extra mile to watch their favourite players at the FIFA World Cup by treating themselves to an amazing experience with a new TV.
Electronic retailers across the UAE have reported an increase in TV and projector sales as fans got ready to watch the matches from the comfort of their homes. Several retailers reported that they had launched special promotions on their TV segments, as they knew that football fans would be on the lookout for a great deal.
"When you have an event like the FIFA World Cup that makes an appearance just once every four years, television sales in particular witness a clear upswing in sales," said Porus Sheriar, GM of TV & Home Appliances at Hisense. "With an estimated viewership of more than four billion people, the FIFA World Cup is the ideal platform to sell large & super large screen TVs as people want to have a feeling of being in the midst of the action and are willing to pay a bit more to upgrade their viewing experience."
He added: "During our 'Buy Hisense Go FIFA' promotion in April & May 2018, we registered a very impressive growth in the 55", 65" & 75" screen size TV sales in the UHD & Upmarket ULED categories. Some of the features that are particularly favored by the soccer fans is smooth judder - free motion that we bring to consumers via our Motion Estimation & Motion Correction (MEMC) feature."
The MEMC algorithm calculates the speed of fast moving objects and inserts compensation frames from digital memory to smoothen out the judder - so what viewers see on the screen is free flowing action, which they would normally not see on all brands of TV screens in the market. Hisense is also one of the few brands that provides a built in beIN Sports app which offer consumers instant access to a lot of sporting action and is one of the advantages of the Smart TV package.
Similarly, Niranjan Gidwani, CEO at Eros Group, noted that while the group did not see an upkeep during the IPL; in the weeks prior to the football world cup, they witnessed a big upswing in the sales of TV panels, in particular the 55 inch segment.
"People have shown a strong preference towards the 55 inch and 65 inch panels," he said. "These are now accounting for over 50 per cent of the sales which is a good sign. The pricing is also making this a good value buy. Consumers prefer the Ultra High Definition panels and QLED TVs as this is apt for watching sports."
Asked about sales in the projectors segment, Sheriar agreed that projector and large format display screens are good for larger audiences and public venues. A lot of demand gets generated for these from the hospitality sector, he said.
"Some people do use projectors at home as well," he added. "However, the picture quality of projectors is not comparable to LCD/LED TVs. Televisions, unlike projectors do a lot of picture processing and are definitely superior in terms sharpness, color rendering, and contrast. So the total experience at least in a home setting is not comparable."
