The total investment on the three substations has exceeded Dh400 million.

This is in line with DEWA’s plan to supply Dubai Industrial City with power by building a series of 132 kVA substations along with four substations each with a capacity of 400 kVA.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of DEWA, has pointed out that DEWA realizes the importance of the industrial sector and considers Dubai Industrial City as an essential pillar of the economy. Keeping this in mind, DEWA aims to supply these areas with the right capacity and at pre-specified timings, based on a programme that is agreed upon between the developers and factory owners. Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s strategy in supporting the economic sectors to raise Dubai’s profile. DEWA strives to ensure it provides the necessary power and water requirements, he added.Rashed Al Ansari, Vice-President of Dubai Industrial City, said: “The supply and operation of the first substation is an important milestone and reflects our strong commitment to securing the energy needs of our investors. This has become even more vital with the rising number of investors currently engaged in the construction of various manufacturing facilities/units and factories throughout Dubai Industrial City.

“Once operational, the three substations will together provide a total of 600MW to meet the demand from companies operating across a large section of Dubai Industrial City, especially those that are developing more than one manufacturing facility in our industrial and commercial phases.”

Al Ansari added, “DEWA is playing a timely role in helping us meet our power supply requirements and establishing credibility with our investors.”
