DP World Chairman Receives Chinese Delegation

DUBAI — Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman, Dubai World, on Thursday received a high-powered delegation from China, led by Guo Shengkum, Secretary of CPC Guangxi Committee, and Chairman of the Standing Committee of Guangxi People’s Congress, where discussions included potential Chinese investment in Dubai.

Guo, who was accompanied by top aides and economic advisers from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, also expressed interest in learning from Dubai World’s experience in the management of ports, free zones and customs.

The talks were attended by Mohammed Sharaf, CEO, DP World, Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice-President and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region, Ibrahim Al Janahi, Chief Commercial Officer, Economic Zones World, Ahmed Mahboob, Executive Director Customer Managing Division, Dubai Customs, and other senior officials from the Dubai World Group.

The visitors accompanying Guo included Huang Shiyong, Deputy Secretary-General of CPC Guangxi Committee, Gao Youzhen, China’s Consul General of Dubai, and other top officials.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman, Dubai World, said: “We warmly welcome Guo Shengkum and the honourable delegates from Guangxi. The People’s Republic of China is central to Dubai World’s strategic business interest in Asia and we have a strong presence there through the marine terminals operated by DP World. We are excited that Chinese companies may invest in Dubai, establishing themselves in the free zone, and look forward to working with our distinguished guests in the future.”

The visiting delegation toured the Jebel Ali Port and Free Zone and expressed admiration at the level of efficiency achieved by the transport and logistic industries in Dubai.
