The Dubai delegation of over 60 participants led by Hisham Abdullah Al Shirawi, Second Vice-Chairman, and Eng Hamad Buamim, Director-General of the Dubai Chamber, visited the Hamburg Port, Airbus factory, and the University Medical Centre Ependorf.

The visits came a day after the second forum was opened on Thursday, where panel discussions on the relevant sectors of interest including banking and finance, energy, healthcare, logistics and foreign trade, media and IT followed extensive meetings by the 230 delegates including businessmen from the two cities of Dubai and Hamburg.

Hamburg Port

Prof Hans-Jorg Schmidt-Trenz, CEO of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, accompanied the delegation on their tour of the port and apprised them with the latest technology used in the management and operation of the port and explained its speciality in providing logistics services to the burgeoning shipping industry of Hamburg which is considered as the Gateway to Europe.

The visiting delegation grabbed the opportunity to discuss ways of cooperation in the area, as the emirate of Dubai is also a focal point of international trade and enjoys the status of an East meets West destination and an entry point to Gulf countries. The delegation also got a chance to see the largest container carriers that operate under the name of Obatek, owned by a Chinese company.

Airbus Factory

The next stop was the Airbus factory where the delegates got a briefing on the functioning of the plant and its growth over the years in view of the increased demand for the Airbus. The delegates were informed that Emirates Airline was the No 1 customer of Airbus with orders of up to 58 aircrafts.

Another Dubai delegation visited the University Medical Centre Ependorf.

At the conclusion of the field trip, Eng Hamad Buamim said that these visits turned out to be quite useful for Dubai-based businessmen as they now look forward to promote trade relations in these sectors and work towards consolidating better trade ties between Dubai and Hamburg.

He sounded very positive about the outcome which he said will complement the successful track record of the first session held in Dubai last year, and will open the doors for new and fruitful cooperation.
