Group and the honourary sponsor of the Dubai Quality Group, or DQG, recognised the contributions of Emirati businesswomen in the UAE at the seventh edition of the Emirates Women Awards, or EWA, at the Address Hotel late on Monday.
The ceremony started with a documentary about the social achievements of Shaikha Fatima bint Zayed bin Saqr Al Nahyan, the wife of His Highness Shaikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman. It highlighted the achievements fulfilled by the EWA throughout this year.
The EWA, organised by the DQG, was witnessed by a large number of businesswomen and professional ladies.
DQG Chairman Dr Wafi Dawood said the EWA has achieved unparallel success in the past six years.
“We are committed to go on with this success in the seventh edition of the Award by making a central change in its criteria,” he said.
DQG was originally named Emirates Businesswoman Awards, and was renamed for this year’s edition to recognise the growing involvement of women in various sectors.
“When DQG launched the first session of the award in 2003, it believes strongly in the importance of honouring and recognising of the achievements delivered by women in the UAE in various fields, which effectively contributed to advancing and accelerating the development in our great nation. In line with this belief, the ladies participating in the award received great support and encouragement from EWA officials, in order to deliver the desired results of the EWA and employ such results for the benefit of your society,” he added.
Rajaa Al Gurg, Chairman of the Dubai Businesswomen Council and head of the EWA Judging Committee, stressed that investments from businesswomen in the UAE have surpassed Dh12 billion.
Al Gurg pointed out that there are 11 thousand businesswomen in the UAE, with 4,300 in Dubai and 3,200 in Abu Dhabi. EWA aims at encouraging women to participate in UAE economic growth, as well as focusing on the contributions of leading women with a view to motivating women to best use their capabilities and experience.
Shaikh Ahmed recognised Shaikha Fatima for her social contributions, with Shaikha Azza bint Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi receiving the honour in her place. Al Gurg, along with EWA Evaluation Committee Head Shawki Sejwani, Sharjah Businesswomen Council Executive Committee Head and EWA committee member Amira Abdul Rahim bin Karam, and EWA Project Manager Fatima Abdul Quader, were also honoured.
Shabana Karim was the overall winner of the businesswoman award with Mona Essa Al Gurg at second place. Maryam Al Afreedi won the professional woman award, with Rawda Mohamed Al Mehrazi at second place.
The other winners in various categories were: Haifaa Bousamara for leadership, Laila Mohamed Taher for financial planning and performance, Asmaa Mousa Abdul for career achievements, Salwa Mohamed Hadi for social contribution and Dr Aisha Al Bousmeet for innovation.
