A global initiative to raise awareness on the impact of climate change, Earth Hour 2009 is spearheaded by the World Wildlife Fund and will be the world’s largest “power down” initiative. It is anticipated to draw the participation of more than 1,500 cities and towns in over 80 countries in a collective call to switch off unnecessary lights and electrical appliances.
The energy saving tips recommended by EMS include simple and cost-effective ways for individuals to make a start towards reducing energy consumption and contribute to mitigating the country’s carbon footprint.
“Earth Hour comes as a timely reminder uniting people all over the world in a concerted action to fight climate change. As an organisation, EMS wholeheartedly supports this initiative and will turn off all non-essential lights on 28 March,” said Khaled Bushnaq, EMS CEO.
“More importantly, individuals must use Earth Hour as a motivating factor to continue their focus on reducing individual energy consumption rates throughout the year.”
